Northern Ontario's Home For Golf
Northern Amateur
The Northern Ontario Amateur is one of Canada’s longest-standing golf tournaments. Founded by the Northern Golf Assocation in 1926, this years event will marked the 97th running of the championship and saw Timberwolf Golf Club as our host.
Held each season in June, the event features the top players from member clubs across Northern Ontario. The championship includes four divisions: Men’s Amateur, Men’s Mid-Amateur, Junior Boys (U19), and Senior Men’s Amateur. 2026 champions include Cole Nead (AM & MID AM), Denis Audette (SR), and Luke Valley (U19).
In 2021, the Northern Golf Association and Golf Ontario proudly hosted the first set of Northern Ontario qualifiers in over 20 seasons. We are proud to carry on that tradition today as the event continues to grow. If you are interested in taking part in the championship, please learn more below!
2026 Northern Amateur
The 2026 Northern (NGA) Amateur Championship and Golf Ontario Qualifiers took place at Timberwolf Golf Club on June 6th and 7th, bringing together many of the North’s and Ontario's top golfers across four divisions.
Timberwolf’s challenging 7,100-yard layout once again proved to be a worthy test. The club has previously hosted both the Canadian Junior Boys Championship and the Ontario Junior Boys Championships, and this marked the third time Timberwolf has hosted the Northern Ontario Amateur Championship.
After Day 1, both divisions required playoffs to determine their champions. In the Mid-Amateur Division, Cole Nead, Jacob Robitaille, and Matt Cassidy battled through two playoff holes before Nead came out victorious. The Junior Boys Division also went to extra holes, with Luke Valley and Drake Robitaille (North Bay) tied after regulation play. Valley secured the championship on the first playoff hole. In addition to the championships, Cole and four other players have successfully qualified for the Golf Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship, while Luke and three others have earned spots in the Golf Ontario U19 Championship.
Day 2 featured exciting finishes despite no playoffs being required. In the Senior Amateur Division, Denis Audette captured his second Northern Ontario Senior Amateur title with a strong performance down the stretch. In the Men's Amateur Division, Cole Nead continued his outstanding weekend, posting a 67 to finish atop the leaderboard with a four-shot victory. Audette will be joined by three other players at the Golf Ontario Senior Mens Amateur Championship, while Nead and four others have qualified for the Golf Ontario Men's Amateur.
We would like to thank all of the players, volunteers, course staff, and officials who helped make this year's championship weekend such a success. We're already looking forward to the 2027 Northern Ontario Amateur Championship and have some exciting plans in store. We can't wait to welcome everyone back next season.
