RECAP: Northern Ontario Championship

(SUDBURY, ON) - This past weekend saw some of the premier golfers of the Northern Ontario region ascend on Timberwolf Golf Club in Sudbury for Golf Ontario provincial qualifications as part of the Northern Ontario Golf Championship weekend.

Jacob Lacko of Timberwolf Golf Club (17 Years Old) had a stellar weekend of golf. He shot a -6 66 to qualify for the U19 Provincial Junior Championships on Saturday, qualifying for the Under 19 Provincial Championship on July 16, 2019 in Thornton, ON. Also qualifying for the Junior Provincials were Emmett Taillefer and Oliver Taillefer, both of Idylwylde Golf & Country Club. Lacko (Timberwolf) followed his Saturday performance up with a Sunday score of +5 77 to finish at -1 143 and claim the title as Northern Ontario Amateur Champion. Lacko also secured the additional Amateur Spot and will represent the NGA at both the Provincial Junior and Amateur later this season.


In the Men's Amateur Qualification rounds, Tristan Renaud (Idylwylde) claimed first with a -1 71. Lucas Ross (Midland G&CC) took home second place with a +1 73 and Evan MacLean (Idylwylde) and Kyle Ward (Idylwylde) both scored a +2 74 to sit deadlocked at third place and claim the final qualifying spots for the Men's Amateur Provincial Championship in Collingwood on July 8, 2019. Jacob Presutti (Brampton GC) and Spencer Gates (Fort Erie) advance to the final qualifying event with matching +3 75 scores. Matt Dumontelle (Timberwolf Golf Club) came out on top of the Men's Mid-Amateur qualifier with a +3 75 score. Jay Jewett (Timberwolf) and Nick Yawney (Timberwolf) claimed second and third, respectively, while Brand Christo and Owen Rigg rounded out the pack as site alternates. The Men's Mid-Amateur Provincial Championship will be taking place at Pointe West GC in Amherstburg, ON on June 18, 2019.


The Senior Men's Amateur Qualifier saw Dion Dumontelle (Cedar Green GC), Peter Woitowich (Idylwylde) and Brent Hatton (Lively G&CC) qualify for the Senior Men's Amateur Championshipo in Gravenhurst on July 30, 2019. Jim Christison and Bob Chasse rounded out the group as alternates.
