The Cambridge Golf Course played host to this year’s edition of the Ontario Bantam (U15) Boys and Girls Championships on August 31st and September 1st, 2020.
Qualifying NGA Bantam Tucker Oreskovich (Kapuskasing Golf Club) gained exemption to this year’s tournament through the NGA Championships back in July of this season. The young golfer took his talents to the challenging 18-hole Southern Ontario course, one that Cambridge Golf Club Head Professional Carla Munch-Miranda says is a mature golf course with beautifully manicured fairways and greens.
“Being a mature golf course, it is a little tighter now, so players need to be on their game and be sure of their placement on the tee.”
When asked about his experience of attending the Provincial Tournament, Oreskovich said nerves took a back seat as he let the excitement of competing take over. “I was more excited than nervous. Oreskovich said. "I never really felt nervous, only on the first tee and the practice round.”
Travelling outside of Northern Ontario certainly meant tougher competition, as the best Bantam (U15) golfers from around the province flourished to Cambridge, ON in hopes of claiming this years’ title, something that meant a lot for the young Kapuskasing native.
“It meant a lot to me because I was there representing Northern Ontario golf, the NGA and of course the Kapuskasing Golf Club.”
Throughout the weekend, golfers not only receive professional treatment from Golf Ontario and the host club, but are also exposed to an experience unlike any other, and this year’s tournament was certainly no exception. When asked about what stood out the most over the 2-day tournament, Oreskovich added "The thing that stood out most for me was how much talent there was and simply how good the other players were.”
The NGA would like to congratulate Tucker on proudly representing the NGA at this year's Provincial Bantam Championships.
